Blessing in Disguise

Working in a goverment hospital doesn't seems that bad. In fact, working away from home it's actually a blessing in disguise. When I informed some people that I actually enjoy doing what I'm doing right now, they don't seem to believe me. When they asked me where exactly I'm working, they will look at me in disbelief and their tone of voice will be incredulous and sceptical when I told them I'm posted in Temerloh, Pahang. The first thing that pops into their minds are the image of me working in a small hospital which is surrounded by acres and acres of vast forest and the picture of me sleeping in a 'rumah kayu' with no water supply, electricity and no connection whatsoever to the outer world. Wake-up people. Learn your geography before you say something negative. Like they say, if you have nothing nice or positive to say, don't say anything at all. Oh, by the way, I'm renting a rumah batu house with clean water supply and I do use electricity to light up my rented house. And the place do have internet connection.

I've been working in the particular 'ulu' hospital for two weeks. Was posted to the manufacturing or as they called it, Galenikal Unit. It was fun. Learnt to make eyedrops, eardrops, gauze and et cetera. Supposed to use the aseptic technique but not exactly sterile cause as everyone knows, the government is on a tight budget. Can't dwelve deeper into details as my hospital reputation is at stake. Then, was stationed at the ward pharmacy. The experience was really an eye-opener and heart-warming. I have learnt so many things even though I've been working there for only a week. I managed to counsel a few 'special' patients and the things that most of us take for granted are especially valuable to them. Some of them are so poor that they can't even afford to pay their medical fees which is considered very cheap for us 'lucky' people. They don't complain about how's life so unfair. They don't bitch about the unfortunate events that befall them. They don't yearn for materialistic things. They only wish to have longer and uneventful life. They have nothing and yet they are so happy. Met some HIV+ patients. Was really interested in knowing their life stories. Most of them are IDUs. Felt sorry for their wives and children as they are positive too. The most satisfying part of the job is when the patients look very happy when you talk and listen to them. I guess they were often ignored as everyone is always so busy to even look into their direction unless necessary. The satisfaction that you will get when someone look up to you and listen to every single word you tell them is what makes waking up at 7am and dragging yourself to work everday seems worthwhile.

Not to forget the HOs. Didn't know they are so clueless. Was screening some prescriptions and discovered that they make so many mistakes that without us pharmacists, they would have killed countless patients. Certain Canadian grad HO can be so arrogant and not admit his mistake. Go die and eat shit la, huh? The rest of the people are very nice and friendly. So helpful until you' couldn't believe that such nice people still exist in this world. I though everyone only cares for themselves and selfish in sharing whatever they know. Guess I was wrong. My colleagues are extremely nice and funny. Working with them is really pleasant. Come to think of it, I am very grateful that I got posted here.

Brain Drain or No Brains?

Becoming a government servant in this country is seriously such a hassle. You have to fill in countless forms and undergo many procedures just to be one. They do not give you anytime to prepare yourself and let me tell you one thing, their management and administration department is so last-minute. They do things extremely slow and don't let me start on the way they handle things. I've been to their so-called health department and the office looks like a hurricane has hit it. Take for example my case. I went for the interview on the 26th of July. I did not receive any news or call from them until the 30th of August. Mind you, before I found out which state I'm going to be posted, I've made countless phone calls to the department. I've dialled their so-called 'hotline' number a gazillion times until I can even memorised the 3 numbers in my heart. Found out I was going to work in Pahang for a year. Fine, that's ok, I still can accept that. SO, after I received the appointment letter on the 30th of August, they actually got the nerve to ask me to report myself for work on the 1st of September. Excuse me, don't they know that we need TIME to prepare ourselves for work like finding a place to rent, the location of the hospital, and other major things to be settled before we can actually start working??? It's bad enough when they don't let you work in your hometown or the states that you have chosen, but when they actually want you to work immediately without giving you some time to work things out, do they think that professionals like us want to stay in this country and serve them??? I seriously do not think anyone in their right minds want to stay here and 'serve' them. So, goodbye Msia and Hello, Singapore. No wonder there's a brain drain. No wonder everyone wants to run away. No wonder there's a shortage of health workers and professionals. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Next Monday will be my first day of work. The name of the hospital is Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Temerloh. Brand new hospital. Huge. Why did they build such a big hospital in a small town??? A waste of taxpayers' money probably. Any serious cases are send to Kuantan hospital or GHKL. What's the point of such a big and new hospital if all the important and serious cases are refered to another hospital? Anyway, found a house to rent. Only RM380 per month. Damn cheap. Will be staying with a batchmate and a senior. Hopefully everything will fall into place without any major obstacles. Oh yeah, and they will actually pay us in November. That means we won't receive any 'bread' until the next 2 months. SO, who's going to pay for our rent until that time?

Bird's Nest

The season of spring brings new life and new growth to the world. Flowers blooming everywhere, buds forming on the tips of stems, leaves growing on once-barren trees, and trees flourishing once again after the passing season of winter. The buzzes of bees and the chirps of birds seem to welcome the coming of spring after several months of dull, wintry nights. The world seems to re-enter the cycle of life and once again, the shy rays of sun appear from the shadows of clouds and bathe the land in its radiance. Amisdt all these, a new life is being born outside the window of Block E-9/F10. To be exact 4 new lives. Si Salmi was the first person who noticed the bird's nest outside the window of our flat. Didn't know she is so observant 1...(wahahaahah), anyway the basket-styled nest was hidden in the shadows of the twigs and it was pretty difficult to spot the eggs. The twigs were quite big and long, kinda amazed by the strength of the bird who built the nest...really fascinated with the eggs and the nest. According to YM, this is because all of us stay in the city, that's why never see a bird's nest before la. Really difficult to take the photo of the nest cause the branches and twigs keep blocking my view...had to rummage and remove some of the twigs carefully so that I don't destroy the nest...

The nest...in the begining, all of us thought they were overgrowth of some kind of trees or shrub...

The hidden eggs...

Looks like telur puyuh...

A much clearer shot of the eggs...

After all, the season of rebirth is really a celebration of new life and also to celebrate the fact that all of us at this moment are still living...in joy of course!

Strawberry Tarts

The irritating 'washing machine' sound is still there. I even made another complaint to VO this morning regarding the noise. Barbara even replied my e-mail and she already informed the VO and had asked the maintenance team to look in to it as they were also aware of the problem. Probably due to the complaints la because I think I have made countless complaints about it. On a lighter note, here's some photos showing the sinfully delicious strawberry tarts we just had. Ah Min and boss loved it so much. Boss lagi greedy, she ate two pieces at one shot. Hopefully she will naik my gaji and belanja me la since I recommended her such nice delicacy. Anyway, the tarts were bought from Greggs at the price of 2 pounds for 4 pieces. Greggs is the leading bakery store in the UK and can be spotted easily on every street in UK due to their significant blue signboard.

The exterior of the box says it all...

The 'quartet' of tarts...boss ate 2 of them (damn tamak la she)

Damn delicious...there's a huge strawberry on each tart. The strawbery itself is coated with thick strawberry-flavored syrup. The crust crumbles easily and it's filled with fluffy white cream.

If you're a sweet-toothed person who loves strawberries, you must try this!!!

Lousy Room

This post has nothing to do with the picture above. Feeling damn agitated now due to the incessant 'washing machine' sound coming from right above me. What is this la??? I paid few thounsands pounds for this kind of room??? Damn noisy. E-mailed Barbara regarding the noise and she better reply or else I will bombard her with hundreds of e-mails per day. Forget bout my rantings. Good night. How I wish I am back home sleeping in my own comfortable bed right now.

Disappointed....

At the moment, we are really disappointed and speechless. Our tickets application for the match between Man U and West Ham on 13th May in Old Trafford is not going great guns!!*Heart-Broken*. We are really not lucky enough, sigh...Stupid ballot system!!It was heavily oversubscribed, prolly becos it's the last home match for Man U in this season. Wonder what r we going to do in Manchester on that day. Cos we will be staying in Manchester for a few days, but we will make our day trip to blackpool and liverpool as well la. Our initial plan for that day was to watch the match and loiter ard Old Trafford, but now, according to babi, we can just sit in the dim sum restaurant and eat from 12pm to 4pm. LOLLLLL. Anyway, we are still looking forward to our trip to Manchester, Blackpool n Liverpool!!:)Besides, we also hope that miracle will happen although it sounds quite unlikely. But, we should be optimistic, right??hehe..
P/s: Thanks a lot to Ah foo (Man U superfans..haha)who helped us to apply the match tickets!!Thanks yea!!

奶油鸡 (Butter Chicken)

Today, we have a guest come to my house to have dinner. And, we decided prepare one dish per person. So, I have cooked this dish called 奶油鸡. Actually, it is a recipe of 奶油虾 (butter prawn), but i changed it to chicken. I think some of the food stores in Malaysia also have this dish.

Here is my recipe:
Ingredients:
1. Half chicken - cut into small pieces
2. 2 tbsp butter
3. 1/2 cup of desiccated coconut
4. 2 green chillies (chilli padi is the best choice) - cut into slices
5. 1/3 cup of evaporated milk
6. Curry leaves (taste better but optional)

Methods:
1. Marinated chicken with salt, light soy sauce, sesame oil and white pepper powder for 2 hrs
2. Then, mix 2 teaspoon of cornflour into the chicken.
3. Bake the chicken at 190 degree C for 30-45 mins until golden brown. (Remember to turn over the chicken on the half way so that it is cooked thoroughly). Another way to cook the chicken is deep fry, but i preferred bake because deep fry is too oily...)
4. Once, chicken is cooked. Prepare and heat a wok.
5. Melt butter in the wok, and add in desiccated coconut and fry for a min.
6. Next, add in green chillies (and curry leaves), fry for 1-2 mins.
7. Add chicken and some salt into wok and fry for a min, then pour in evaporated milk.
8. Now, fry till all the evaporated milk evaporated and it is done!

N.B. If u use prawns, then boil or fry or deep fry the prawns instead of bake.

*Have a nice try!*

Disturbed mind....

long long time ago - Jogoya (We must go again!)

After paying a 'visit' to Mr Hira (MSL) to take our flight tickets to UK, we headed to Jogoya for lunch - a Japanese Buffet @ Starhill- recommended by Boss (aka syt) and babi. The design was nice and was comfortable for dining. There were a variety of food for u to choose from. Slurrps... The food was prepared freshly for example soup, grill fish, etc. Each table has several Jogoya clips. If u wan to order stg, juz place the clip at the particular section of food u wan to order and the food will be served to ur table. The coconut drink was our favourite, LOL. Due to some sickness, our sesatgang leader dun hav the chance to drink coconut but chinese tea and also sum thai fried rice but not seafood hahaha after paying for soooo much. From the Boss (aka syt) and babi experience, they personally think that the best time to go is Dinner time cuz its peak time which means food will be tastier and fresher wahahaha! Here are some of the photos, we will first start with the photo of our boss...

Boss: "introducing u Jogoya!"

Steam fish. Nice!

China Blue

Our stay in Glasgow is going to come to an end in three months time. After that, we will be flying back home and start our job as government 'dogs'. Of course, before we leave, we try to enjoy every moment of our stay here. Life here has been great and looking back, there are many wonderful memories to be shared together. One of them is our constant lookout for Chinese restaurants in ang-mo land. Sometimes, I always wonder to myself the reason why my housemates (especially Ah Min) always choose to have Asian food when we dine outside. Didn't we eat Asian/Chinese dishes for the past 20 years??? I thought we were supposed to try out what the ang-mohs usually eat over here. Everytime we decide to eat out, the list of restaurants that crop up are always Asia Style, Chukoku, Kama Sutra, Starwalk, China Blue, Kokoryu, and IchiBan (n.b. all these restaurants either serve Chinese/Indian or Jap/Korean food). We have dined at all these places and the food was just so-so except for China Blue. So far, China Blue serves the best dishes and probably is the best in Glasgow City (im my opinion la). We had a hard time finding the place as it was located in quite a secluded street. Had to call JY for the location. The interior of the place was just like a typical Chinese restaurant in Malaysia. The place serves various types of Chinese dish you can ever imagined. Just looking at the menu makes our mouth water. Some of the dishes we ordered were...

King prawns with egg-white bits. Don't let the picture deceive you. Although it looked nice, the taste of it was so-so. The prawns were kind of soft and the egg-white bits were 'wet'. A big dissapointment of the night...

Fried chicken pieces with sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was cooked to perfection and the chicken were crispy and tender at the same time...

This was even better. Chicken pieces with lemon sauce. Very appetizing due to the tangy sauce...

Seafood belacan. We thought it was supposed to be red/orangey color because of the belacan. Mana tau it turned out to be white in color =.=". It didn't have any belacan taste or aroma. However, it was still spicy and hot due to the cili padi. This dish had generous portions of prawns, sotong, and scallops...very worthy of your pounds...

Claypot minced pork and tofu with salted fish. Super nice!!!

The star of the night was this kai lan dish. Damn delicious. Probably because we had been deprived of kai lan for so long. Plus, there were lots of scallops in it. The main drawback was the price of it. This cost 15 pounds...

Took some photos after the meal. Want to hightlight the fact that our boss is always ready for the camera 24/7. She damn sensitive to camera flash...all of us were not ready except for her...

All oso posers la...

Finally, a proper picture...boss like never move or change her expression at all from the 1st photo...

In short, China Blue is the place to go if you wanna try delicious+scrumptious+yummy Chinese food.

On an unrelated note, here's a photo of the perpetrator of the Virginia Tech massacre...

What was he thinking when he shoot all those innocent people before taking his own life? Looking at his pic gives me the creeps. I guess he lost the purpose of living and didn't value his life...was quite interested in the news because the shooter was an Asian. And hopefully, this incident doesn't bring out any racist attacks against us Asians....I' m still living in an ang-mo land......

Leader Ah Kim

Till now, the leader of sesat gang haven't make an appearance yet as she's now overseas doing some 'business'. Before she left, our responsible leader delegated the job of updating this blog to us. We are now awaiting her return anxiously and hopefully, she will bring back some souvenirs for us from her overseas trip!

The leader (third from left) and her loyal non-sesat assistants...our leader is very sesat 1 cos she always has a bored expression on her face...

Here's a clearer photo of her. Take note of her face as you might need her in the future to teach you the art of 'sesatness'...

God bless u, Leader Ah Kim!!!! Wahahhaha...crap =.='"
